 +for the cake mix:
 +  * 175g unsalted butter
 +  * 175g soft brown sugar
 +  * 175g self-raising flour
 +  * 1 tsp baking powder
 +  * 50g flaked almonds
 +  * 3 eggs, beaten

 +for the base:
 +  * 30g unsalted butter
 +  * 30g soft brown sugar
 +  * juice of half a lemon
 +  * 2 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

 +Preheat oven to 190 degrees celsius. Cream together butter and flour in a mixing bowl. Add sugar and baking powder, then almonds and eggs. Stir until smooth. It's really important that you get a smooth paste, without letting the butter get liquid.

 +For the base, heat the butter in a non-stick frying pan. Add the sugar, caramelize, then add the lemon juice. Add the apple wedges and coat them in the caramel for two minutes. Don't overcook the apples.
